Wildfire in North California Kills 1 and Destroys 400 Homes

On Saturday, a wild fire broke out in North California leaving one dead and 400 homes destroyed. Reports gathered; the fire broke out at North of San Francisco and raced speedily through dry brush and exploded in size within hours. In addition to the homes, officials also counted two apartment complexes and 10 businesses destroyed by the flames, 1,000 structures such as barns, sheds and other outbuildings were burned.

Despite the effort of the fire fighters, the fire continued to spread in all directions quickly as a result of the drought, triggering the evacuation of a stretch along Highway 281, including Clear Lake Riviera, a town with about 3,000 residents. Four of the fire fighters also sustained second-degree burns during the initial attack on the fire and presently in the hospital.

The fire was 25% contained and a state of emergency has been declared by Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertain.
