As the Rivers re-run election draws closer good number of persons have
been killed from the two major contending parties. However, some soldiers
fell victim on Thursday, when three soldiers, including a Major in the Nigerian
Army were allegedly ambushed by unidentified hoodlums and killed during a fierce shoot out.
However, contrary to the stated place of murder Briggs has clarified
that the soldier did not die in the precious reported place of murder. But were
killed in the creeks. This she said as the level of anxiety increases among the
people of Rivers thereby distancing Abonnema from the incident.
She condemned the violence against the military by an unidentified group
of persons, adding that such was ugly and painful.
“The soldiers were not killed in
Abonnema town. What ever happened, happened in the creeks.”
“However we condemn the killing
of the military men at this time”, she said.
While condemning the unjust act, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in
Rivers State has pointed accusing fingers at the Governor of the state, Chief
Nyesom Wike and his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Chris Finebone who condemned the
killings said, “Gov Wike said the killings in Rivers State were amongst cult
groups. Now, were the Major of the Nigerian Army and the other soldiers killed
cult members?”
“Wike and his evil deeds will soon be exposed,” he added.
The Rivers State Government also accused the APC of being behind the
killings of the soldiers. Responding, the Commissioner of Information and
Communications, Dr. Agustin Tam-George said,
“The APC is responsible for their death. The
soldiers were killed by the APC in order to blackmail the PDP and the Rivers
State Government.”
