Delta State LG Economic Council Amendment Bill, Legislator says it is a New Face of Hope and Lease of Life for Delta Economy.


The member representing Ika North East constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri Has hailed his colleagues on the speedy passage of Delta State Economic Council Amendment Bill ,2016.


The Lawmaker who spoke in support of the bill as it was passed by the Delta State House of Assembly, noted that the Delta State Economic Planning Council Amendment Bill Is aimed at repositioning the Delta State Economic Council and giving it the needed strength to effectively discharge its functions, thus bring to bear a new face of hope and lease of life for the Delta State economy

The honourable member went further to state that, most of the problems militating against the efficient implementation of our State Government economic policies and programmes through the State Economic Council are being taken care of by this amendment by filling up some lacuna attendant with the principal Law.

He stressed that in meeting the needs of the present day Delta State, increase in the quantity of our resources and value of the goods and services produced by every sector of the economy of our state is paramount; and no matter how laudable the economic policies and programmes of any State may be, where the right people who are to implement those policies and programmes are not in place, it becomes absolutely impossible to realise its set objectives.

The Legislator therefore commeded His Excellency, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the Excecutive Governor of Delta State for initating the bill, noting that with this amendment the State Economic Council will now have the kind of team and needed personnel capable of enhancing The economic growth cum development of Delta State; and our contribution to the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which is in line with the SMART Agenda. He maintained that when signed into Law, it will go a long way in bringing economic prosperity for Deltans.
