The World: Then & Now

There was once a world, where people lived and were valued for their intelligence, personality and what they stand for. Education was the greatest asset, which serves as a means to constructively build a society of great people. They searched for ways to better the world, eradicate inequality, hate and malicious injustice.  They worked to develop a technological advance world which is a sound foundation being built upon today.
There was a balance between giving into and taking out of society.
The purpose of education was to learn and add value to the society. They had a sound knowledge bank, that's why now dropouts can break records (Bill Gates, Steve Jobs), and students can honorably defend their performance in and out of school.  Knowledge was valued for what it was in every sector. Music was melodious and lyrically impactful, as the soul food, bringing healing to the mind. Movies were not just entertaining but informative and enlightening. Theories were developed scientifically and economically for productivity in every dilemma. Politically free and fair with credible and self-sacrificing office holder, even if not in all parts of the world. It was a world where hard work with determination was the people's watchword. If not so, how then do you explain a man willing to carry out an experiment thousands of times, just to make a discovery? Though that world wasn't perfect, it was a world of valuable values and people with vision and acclaimed achievements. Some of such people are still in existence but the emptiness is too big for them to fill.

Today, we live in a world that's in an opposite direction with psychological problem on the increase because man is no longer focusing on who he can become but what he can become. Unfortunately, it is the who that defines the what, not vice versa (unless in the movies, where you can play whatever role you choose). Entertainment now seems to be the greatest and quickest way to becoming an achiever. Music has become the soul burden, with so much clashing of cymbals and deafening noise, not to mention lyrical vagueness and vulgarities – except for a good few of course. The destructive impact of corrupt movies (which are large in numbers) in terms of nudity, weapon use etc. is heart breaking.  Men no longer take time to read, let alone study. The sincere pursuit of knowledge is diminishing, in favour of pursuit of certificates that many can't defend.
There are few people still working to make this world a meaningful place. Hopefully, we all will follow their steps to find the old path that can lead to a renewal of our minds and the society. Cheers!
