The Heart: A Man's Friend and Enemy

The heart is the speech and feeling bank of a man. Without it the mouth of a man is incapacitated. Oops! The man himself is incapacitated.
Take a check with the Bible: A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.(Luke 6:45). There's absolutely nothing the mouth has got to say without taking orders from the heart.

Every formulated and unformulated speech comes from one place; "The Heart.” Just as things come from the heart, so also do things go straight into the heart. What goes in determines the exhibition of an individual character.

The most companionable person you'll ever find is you inside of you running the shows of life or calling the shots. From the moment you wake up, you automatically start a conversation within yourself – with yourself. Your heart in collaboration with the mind and five senses begin to map out the activities for the day. And before the end of the day, you've had conversations with yourself, modifying and re-modifying actions and reactions a hundred times more than you actually spoke to people.

Funny enough, the heart can be very bossy…tells you to run when you should walk, and walk when you should run; ignoring his counterparts because all actions and inaction comes from what and how the heart feels. How else do you explain it when someone overreacts about an issue? Oh yeah! The heart felt and refused to pay attention to what the mind reasoned and what the senses observed. When such feelings occupy the entire being of a man, the mind can no longer reason with the heart about the senses’ observations; and the mouth can't speak because the inside man has chosen to listen to himself. That's the state called depression if the feelings are negative; and if positive, it’s what leads to pride. So your heart can be your worst enemy, if enclosed against the mind reasoning and activities of the senses - and your best friend, if exposed to the reasoning and activities of the mind and senses. No matter what you feel or how you feel, take a moment to reason with your mind and observe with your senses. That way, your every reaction to actions will be moderate and amicable. Except on occasions when your heart speaks louder than a thunder clap. Even then, be harmless and strike no one. Cheers!

  1. Insightful...but what do I do with the heart? Make "friends" with the "enemy"?
