The members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria popularly referred to as Shiites, took to the street of Kano on Monday to protest and demand for the release of their leader  Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

They came in hundreds of numbers including men, women and children. Placards with the inscription demanding for the release of their leaders were carried by majority of the protesters.

The leader of the protesters,  Mallam Sani Malfa addressed the crowds at Kofar Mata after three hours of protesting.

"We demand immediate release of Shiek Zakzaky," he said. "And we want him to be released for him to be treated by doctors of his choice over the injuries he sustained."

He said the Islamic Movement also wanted the immediate and unconditional release of the bodies of those that were killed, as well as those who are in detention.

"Members of the Shiites are also calling the authority to allow us to see Shiek Zakzaky for us to know his condition eye to eye," he declared.
