Cases of Detained, Dismissed and Sentenced Soldiers to be Revisited by the Nigerian Army
Cases of dismissal against some Nigerian soldier and other military officers over insubordination and other related allegations in respect to Boko Haram operations in Northern part of Nigeria  is to be revisited by the Nigerian Army. As a result of this, the general military courts-martial in Nigeria has been dissolved and a new committee constituted by the  new chief of staff, Major-general Tukur Buratai. The duty of the committee is to revisit all relevant cases of military officers sentenced and awaiting trial before the courts-martial in Abuja, Kaduna and Lagos.

Activities of the committee is expected to commence from 7th of August and sit for 25days. And opportunity will be given to all military officers involved in the various cases. As many that will be resuming work will be made to undergo retraining exercise for a short period of time. It was also said by Colonel Sani Umar, acting director, public relations of the Nigerian army,  that; they will be revisiting “all recent disciplinary cases due to waves of litigation by some aggrieved personnel,”  however stating that, the directive does not mean a total recall of dismissed and deserted soldiers.

Nigerian First Lady Aisha Buhari Donates Money to Victims of Gombe Blast.

The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari donates an undisclosed sum of amount to the victims affected by the bomb blast in Gombe. Forty eight of the victims are presently undergoing treatment  at the Federal Teaching and Specialists’ Hospital in Gombe. She also prayed for their quick recovery and for the souls of those that lost their lives.

Katsina Governor Masari Accuses Ex Govenor Shema of Leaving an Empty Treasury and N42 Billion Debt.

 Katsina State Governor has joined the list of Governor with empty treasury and debts running into billions of Naira. This was reviewed by Governor Aminu Masari in Kafur yesterday, while speaking at an organized reception to honour him. He accused his predecessors; former Governor Ibrahim Shema of leaving an empty treasury and N42 billion debt. However the Governor promised to ensure the fulfillment of all promises made during his campaign  which includes: restoration of the state lost glory and making the needs of the masses a major priority. He said he had ordered visits to all primary schools and health centres be made to assess their real condition, and arranged for 60 women and 40 men from each of the political ward in the state to be empowered as part of an aggressive economic empowerment program.

 New York’s Empire State building Lights up by Cecil the Lion

In order to raise awareness about the plight of endangered animals, a giant picture of Cecil the Zimbabwean Lion killed by American trophy hunter was among images projected on Saturday onto the Empire State Building in New York in a dazzling display. And this happens to be a first of its kind. The image of the Lion Cecil was seen from a 33 story building of the most famous building from the southern face in an 18minutes video. New Yorkers gathered to take snap shots of the image as far as 20blocks away, as it light up to brighten the night sky creating a beautiful spectacle.

The project was an initiative  of Louie Psihoyos; Oceanic Preservation Society founder and director of Oscar-winning 2009 documentary film “The Cove,” which shone a grisly light on Japan’s dolphin-hunting industry.

Burundi Top General Assassinated 

General Adolphe Nshimirimana, one of the close aide to the Burundi President, Pierre Nkurunziza  was killed on Sunday in the capital Bujumbura when his car was attacked in an apparent rocket attack. The general before his death was widely seen as the crisis-hit central African nation’s de facto internal security chief and even considered the regime’s number two. The general death was confirmed by the presidency’s communications chief Willy Nyamitwe.
“I have lost a brother, a companion in the struggle. The sad reality is that General Adolphe Nshimirimana is no longer with this world,” he twitted.
