We are all aware that in most churches today, the focal point is on
prosperity and pastors becoming victims of fraudulent acts in the quest
of living a prosperous life. If one is to attend four church services on
a Sunday,
it'll be a miracle to find one that will aim at preaching a message
other than prosperity. This is how narrow the preaching of the gospel of
Christ is becoming. Its very easy to point out, how poor the church
used to be until the preaching of prosperity but its also very easy to
point out how less heavenly incline people have become and not to mention the show of love amongst brethren.
Does it mean I fault the preaching of prosperity? NO (Ecclesiastes 10:19; 7:12). Money talk gets everybody's attention and preachers now understand that you can't preach salvation without prosperity. When it should be you can't preach prosperity without salvation. Yes! That's the twist. The primary given assignment is the preaching of salvation which is the tree of the gospel. Prosperity and other blessings become the branches (Matthew 6:33; 28:19). But today, some have made prosperity the tree and salvation a branch. You want to be rich, to have this or that, then you have to be saved. Knowing fully well, no one desire to be poor. You get saved first because of Christ Love and His Sacrifices on the Cross. That's the gospel. And the riches/wealth comes along.
You shouldn't come to Christ because you desire His blessings but you desire Him. And when coming, you need not come alone, come with your burden and find rest (that's the beauty, you must desire to come). And that's exactly what man needs today; rest from the terror and ills of life; from sin and find happiness. A young believer needs to know what it takes to live right as a Christian, especially in a world where the right things are being scorned and view as wrong ones. Most people shy away from being outspoken about such in order to avoid name calling; a smoker/prostitute want to break free from their habit and runs to church expecting to hear words that will guide him in dealing with the difficulty of living behind this awful act but in 3 months all he gets to hear is; how to be rich over and over again. I tell you, he or she'd find a way to make excuses for his sinful nature.
There's so much ills, unhappiness, pain in today's society. People needs to find salvation, be happy and live right and of course all of the Lord's blessings will still be made available (1 Kings 3:3). Love for God should bring prosperity and not prosperity should bring love for God. That's the way to enjoy life as a Christian, to let your light shine so bright for all to see. Cheers!
