PDP Stake-holders involved in multi-billion Naira centenary project scam

President Buhari has been petitioned to investigate the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, over alleged multi-billion naira scam by the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, South-South zone, Cairo Ojougboh.

Mr  Ojougboh accuses the past SGF of using the Centenary City project in Abuja, which was built by the Federation Government and other activities to mark Nigeria’s 100 years as a nation, but were coordinated by the former SGF as a medium of looting funds from the Federation.

In his allegation he said; the government had no equity in the project and that Mr. Anyim, a former senate president, was the sole owner of the 3000 acres of the land owned by the Centenary City.

However, a protest was staged on Monday at the national secretariat of PDP, Abuja during a press conference with President Buhari, convened by Mr. Ojougbo. The protesters were members of the New PDP Reformation Coalition and Support Groups, led by one Danelsi Momoh. During the protest he alleged that; Mr.Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives, petition is based on selfish interest and desire to contest for the position of the national chairman of the party, which will likely lead to disaster if elected.

'Support for Jonathan crippled political activities in South-east'

The Deputy National Secretary of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Jerry Obasi, has said;  The Ndigbo expect  former President Goodluck Jonathan, to render apologies and expression of gratitude pointing out that “because of support for Jonathan, politics in Igbo land was greatly affected.”

According to Guardian, this observation was made by Obasi,  in an interaction with The Guardian against  a backdrop of recent mass defection of eminent personalities from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State to the All Progressives Congress (APC), disclosed that the bandwagon support by certain Igbo leaders for Jonathan crippled free expression and unsettled the political climate in the Southeast.

He said because of Jonathan’s interest, the wishes of the people were subverted while popular political leaders were rendered irrelevant.

His words: “In my opinion, Jonathan did not show reciprocal support for Ndigbo; he was merely interested in getting our votes without any interest in the sanity of our politics. In Niger Delta, some people who opposed Jonathan were denied tickets to pave the way for his supporters to contest election. But in Igbo land especially in Anambra State, not even a single person was allowed to win a seat in either the House of Representatives or Senate.

Senate Leader requests for removal of National Assembly Principal Officers privileges.

Senate Leader Mohammed Ndume has called for the removal of privileges from principal officers at the National Assembly. He made the call on Tuesday when speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri.

He said the removal of the privileges would eliminate the leadership struggle among legislators.Ndume believe that the struggle for leadership, especially that of the senate president is as a result of the excessive privileges attached to the office. Hence, the removal of such privileges will help to reduce fights in the National Assembly for the position.

First set of bodies recovered from the site of Indonesian crashed Plane

The first set of  bodies of the people killed in Indonesian crashed plane were on Wednesday recovered from the remote site where the plane went down in eastern Indonesia as a result of bad weather killing all 54 passenger.

The bodies were being carried through the dense forests and mountainous terrain, said local military spokesman Pudji Teguh Rahardjo, because it will be difficult to airlift the bodies as a result of bad weather. About 300 local people were involved in the recovery effort. Once recovered, the bodies will be flown to Jayapura, Papua’s capital.

Game park owner charged over the killing of Cecil, the Lion.

The game park owner accused of letting an American tourist illegally hunt and kill a lion on his property in Zimbabwe has been charged in connection with the killing and released on bail in Hwange, his lawyer said.

The killing of Cecil, a 13-year-old, rare, black-maned lion and a popular tourist attraction, caused global consternation and triggered a major backlash against Africa's multi-million dollar hunting industry.

Honest Ndlovu owns the game park into which Cecil was lured from the adjacent Hwange National Park and shot with a bow and arrow by American dentist Walter Palmer.

A copy of the charge sheet seen by Reuters said Ndlovu was charged with permitting "a person who is not ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe to hunt the said animal which was not on the hunting quota."

His lawyer Tonderai Mukuku said Ndlovu denies the charge and was set free on $200 bail. He will return to court on Sept. 18.

The same Hwange court last week postponed until Sept. 28 the trial of local hunter Theo Bronkhorst.
Bronkhorst, who acted as Palmer's guide, is accused of failing to prevent Palmer from killing Cecil, who had been fitted with a GPS collar as part of an Oxford University study, and was a favourite with tourists visiting Hwange park.

Zimbabwe wants Palmer, 55, extradited from the United States to face trial.
Reuters report.

Cheers!
