Top Education Officials sacked By Ogun State Government Over Examination Questions
The third English examination question for Ogun State students which contains a controversial summary passage with a critical view of the alleged negligence of education by government reads thus "There is no arguing about the fact that the government is merely paying lip service to the development of the education. It is true that a lot of money is being spent on education sector but, with little or no impact felt by the people, except where we want to deceive ourselves.
Many school run by the government which were formally known for academic excellence have suddenly lost their prestige and are living on past glory. No wonder many parents and guardians are threateningly left with only one option, to withdraw their wards from these schools to other ones that are better managed."
This lead to the sack of atleast six officials in the Ministry of Education by the Ogun State Government. The summary was alleged to have been prepared by an examiner, Adegbenro Joel. Those affected include; the examiner, who is a teacher at Mayflower secondary school, an acting Permanent Secretary, Folashade Oresegun; three directors including, Ganiyu Odunsi, and a deputy director, curriculum and evaluation, simply identified as Mr. Majekodunmi. However Messrs Oresegun and Odunsi dismissal was later converted to compulsory retirement while the four other affected officials remain dismissed according to reliable government source.
It was reported that Governor Ibikunle Amosun got infuriated after his attention was called to the passage, and allegedly ordered the officials of the ministry directly in charge of that examination to be sacked.

Member of infamous 'San Quentin 6' killed by fellow inmate
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California corrections officials say an inmate involved in a bloody 1971 San Quentin prison escape attempt that left six dead has been killed by a fellow prisoner.
Corrections spokeswoman Dana Simas says the slaying of 71-year-old Hugo Pinell triggered a riot Wednesday involving about 70 inmates at a maximum security prison east of Sacramento.
She says Pinell was targeted by another inmate on an exercise yard.
Eleven other inmates were taken to an outside hospital to be treated for stab wounds.
Forty-four years ago, Pinell helped slit the throats of San Quentin prison guards during an escape attempt that led to the deaths of three guards, two inmate workers and escape ringleader George Jackson.
Jackson was a Black Panther leader who was fatally shot as he ran toward an outside prison wall.
