On the Foreign Scene:

Man dies trying to stop Suicide.

A 24year old man who tried to save a 19 year student from suicide met with his own death when attempting to pull the young man from the 14th floor of a University of Hawaii dormitory.

"The two men fell;  one of them to his death while trying to pull the other from a ledge," Honolulu police said

The 24-year-old man who died was trying to bring inside an apparently distraught 19-year-old who went out a window onto the ledge early Sunday, authorities said.

Both men were severely injured from the fall, police said in a statement. They were taken to a hospital, where the older man was pronounced dead. The 19-year-old remained in critical condition.

Civilian and Police killed in Kashmir, Indian rebel shooting.

According to police report; a policeman and a civilian were killed in an opened fire shooting by suspected rebels on Tuesday, outside a Muslim shrine in Indian Kashmir.

The militants targeted the police officer guarding the shrine of Tujjar Sharif, 55 kilometres (35 miles) northwest of the main city of Srinagar.

“The policeman unfortunately lost his life, and a civilian who was shot during the attack succumbed to his injuries later,” deputy inspector general of police for the area, Gharib Das, told AFP.

“It appeared that the policeman on guard was the target, not the shrine.”
It was not clear if the 70-year-old disabled civilian was shot by the militants or he was hit by a bullet when police returned fire.

The militants fled the area after the attack and the dead police officer’s automatic rifle was missing, Das said, adding security forces had launched a hunt for the attackers.
