How Labour Party House of Assembly Candidate was Killed, shortly before Tribunal Sitting.

The Delta State Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for Warri South Constituency in the April 2015 general election, Mr Akpobome Bright Obodo was shot dead by unknown gunmen at Orhunwhorhun, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State. This was ahead of the House of Assembly Petition Tribunal's judgement involving him. It would be recalled that he approached the Delta State House of Assembly petitions tribunal, sitting in Asaba, to challenge the declaration of Dennis Omovie of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the election.


It was gathered that the gun men trailed him with a Jeta car but escaped with his Toyota camry after assasinating him. An eyewitness noted he had attempted to escape from the gun men but was blocked and shot. One of them was heard saying " I think you want to rule; come and rule na."

Residents in the area rushed out at the sound of the gun shots to find out exactly what had happened when they suddenly saw the gunmen escaping in Obodo's car and shoting sparodically and a resident in the area got hurt. But was quickly rushed to the hospital.

The eyewitness further added that they found the body of Obodo lifeless on the ground after the gun men had escaped.  His corpse was then taken to the mortuary.

It was reported that the late Mr Obodo had laid complains in various Police Station in the Warri Metropolises about unknown men trailing and threatening his life but got no response.

It was futher reported that youths loyal to the deceased Obodo in Igbundu area of Warri South Local Government Area have allegedly engaged their counter part in People Democratic Party in the area in a gun dual.

However, it was not confirmed if there were any casualty from the crisis emanating from the death of Mr. Obodo.
