Gov. Okowa Admonishes Leaders on Service to the People.



The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has admonished leaders to always work for the good of the people to ensure they reap the dividends of democracy.

Governor Okowa stated this while addressing the congregation during the thanksgiving service of the Senator Ighoyota Amori, the Representative of  Delta Central Senatorial District, at the Assumption Catholic Church, Mosogar in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.


The Thanksgiving service was attended by The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, Deputy Senate President,  Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Reps Minority Leader, Rt Hon. Leo Ogor, Senator James Manager, Senator Peter Nwoboshi, Senators Dino Melaye, Mao Ohuabunwa, Speaker Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Monday Igbuya, State Chief Judge Justice Marshall Mukoro, among others.

Speaking further, Governor Okowa laid emphasis on how much Senator Ighoyota Amori has contributed to the growth and development of Delta Sate while noting that, nobody can talk about the politics of Delta State, without talking about the contributions of Senator Ighoyota Amori.

"If you are embarking on a political journey in Delta State and you do not have Senator Amori on board there is a problem." he said.

The Governor also charged leaders to always work for the good of the people at all times. "We must continue to work for the common good of all Deltans inspite of the difficult times. As leaders, we must realize that we are placed in authority for the collective good of the people. With the collective contributions of all we will surmount our present challenges."

He also said; "Despite the challenging situations we will continue to stay focused as a state. We hope and pray that our youths will continue to embrace us and remain law abiding."

The Governor also used the opportunity to appreciate the Urhobo nation for supporting his quest to become Governor of Delta State.

"I thank you for your trust in electing me as Governor, despite the fact that two of my major opponents were from Urhobo land, I got more votes in from the Urhobo people than they did. It is my wish that we will continue to work as one, There will be no more Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Isoko, Anioma but just Delta State, In essence, we will no longer know any tribe but one Delta.

Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki in his speech lauded the Delta caucus in the Senate for their immense support towards his emergence as President of the Senate. "The Delta caucus in the Senate is a very strong caucus and I must thank them for their support towards my emergence as Senate President.

"I have always believed that once you are elected a Senator, you become a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not of any political party.

"We are therefore always guided by national interest in whatever decisions and actions we take in the National Assembly."

He assured that the senate will tackle the issue of fuel scarcity and bring it to an end. "Fuel scarcity does not know any political party, it affects all of us and we must therefore work assiduously to end it." He noted
Earlier in his speech, Senator Amori expressed his joy and appreciation to the people of Delta Central for their support during and after the elections. He said he was thanking God for granting him success in the polls as well as at the election tribunal.
