And he immediately wished he hadn't, because all he could picture is her face clasped in between his hands, actually probably with the hope of doing more than that.
"Thank you so much, I do appreciate." he heard her thin voice and again Dennis found himself creating more disastrous images. It took some effort but he did got a grip of his thoughts, nodded and pushed her hand away from him. "You can keep it."
To his chagrin, she gave him that suspicious look again, 'like hope this isn't a trap?' That actually made him wished he had taken the money. But that thought was quickly erased when a sweet smile broke through her lips, to exposed a perfectly even, not so white set of teeth, followed by a heartfelt 'thank you.' Atleast, the lady does have a flaw. He nodded, not sure how his voice might sound if he speaks.
He looked at her searchingly, wondering if she's just acting the role of a saint. But as much as he would love to believe otherwise, Dennis knew when he was beaten. She is genuine. So, the need to keep his mind and thoughts on a neutral ground. He could actually make do with a good company, the journey is a long one.
She turned away, adjusting her sitting position to create as much distance the seat could allow. Now, that's being paranoiac but then, it suits them both.
Dennis cleared his throat and glared at the headrest of the person in front. Okay! Dennis Ayomike, you've done your duty, he told himself sternly. You helped a lady in distress, but strictly speaking you're not receiving anything but gratitude from her.

He frowned and looked at her again. She just might be playing the good girl game with him. He was still trying to make up his mind all over again when she turned in his direction. But she quickly averted her face when their eyes came in contact. Her head fell back against the headrest and she heaved a silent but deep breath before closing her eyes...... To be continued.
