The president made this declaration during an interactive session with Nigerians residing in Equatorial Guinea where he is presently on a state visit.
“We will be merciless and
relentless in pursuing all those who abused public trust. Nigerians will see
how some of the elite conspired to run the nation down,” he said
However, he will entertain no fear in bringing everyone to book.
President Buhari also condemned the ecent political violence in Rivers
State where a great number of people have been killed. He said the killing of
people over political differences is primitive, barbaric and unacceptable.
He further
said “We will deal decisively with all sponsors of violence. I have given
the security services clear directives in this regard.
“We will show that violence in
any form will no longer be tolerated before, during or after elections”.
He also promised that the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC would be encouraged to look into the possibility of
Nigerians abroad participating in the 2019 general elections by casting their
votes wherever they might reside.
“I want all
Nigerians to know that I respect them and their right to choose their leaders,”
he said.
Buhari is in
Equatorial Guinea to discuss measures to protect the people and the Niger Delta resources and Gulf of Guinea with President Teodoro Mbasogo.
At a
ceremony after his arrival in the country on Monday, March 14, 2016, Buhari was conferred
with the Equatorial Guinea’s Highest National Honour the Grand Collar of the
Order of the Independence.
