The first attempt to transplant the uterus in the United States of America, US has failed due to sudden complication experienced by the patient, the Cleveland clinic said in a statement on Wednesday.
The womb had to be surgical removed on Tuesday from the 26years old woman known as Lindsey who received the transplant in the Cleveland hospital 24th of February. No further information was given as the hospital is to review the situation and explore what possibility went wrong.
The patient had even appeared at a press conference on Monday expressing her hope to get pregnant.
The experimental transplant is to offer solution for women born without womb or lost in the process to disease. However, the hospital plan to carry out 10 other uterus transplants is still in progress.
Uterus transplant have been attempted in other countries with some reported failures, although Sweden has succeeded in five healthy births.
