Pinnick Hails Appointment of Okowa as Delta Sports Boss

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has commended Delta State Government for the appointment of Tony Okowa as the chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission (DSSC).

Also on the new board of the sports commission is Neville Bekederemo, a former personal assistant to the former DSSC chief. Others include, one of the pioneers of female football in the country, Elder Eddington Kuejubola and Chinenye Daphne.

Pinnick who is the immediate past chairman of the DSSC said yesterday that the appointment of Okowa amounts to ‘putting a round peg in a round hole’ and that he is going to build on the success attained by the state in Nigerian sports.

“Tony Okowa is the right choice for the job. We are all living witnesses to the marvelous job he did as Chairman of Delta Force. I strongly believe that he is going to build on the success attained by Delta State in sports generally,” observed Pinnick.

Warri Wolves and the football house in Asaba are just some of the several successes recorded by the commission under his leadership.

He urged all stakeholders in Delta sports to rally round Okowa to ensure that more of Blessing Okagbares, Ese Brumes    and Ogho-Oghene Egweros are discovered from the grassroots in the state.

Okowa is also a former vice chairman of Delta Football Association. He was chairman of Delta Force FC for four years and many people in the state still remember how he made players’ welfare apriority.

Before he was appointed chairman of Delta Force FC of Asaba, he managed his football club, Appeteez FC, to a huge success.

He is an apostle of grassroots sports development instead of the short term plans of poaching athletes adopted by several states.
