an antidote to the growing unemployment in the country, Delta State
Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has urged Nigerians to tap into the
more than 1, 000 jobs available daily online.
Governor Okowa made
the call (01/02/16) in Asaba while declaring open a 2-day online
digital job training workshop on microwork for 2,000 unemployed Deltans
at Orchid Hotel.
The training programme was organised by the
Delta State government in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of
Communication Technology, Abuja and the Rockefeller Foundation (USA).
According to the Governor, "available statistics indicate that about
1,000 jobs are available on-line daily on various platforms; our youths
should tap into these opportunities because, these jobs range from
graphic design, programming, instructional designs, to translations,
proof reading, web design and report writing."
"They are also
available in different fields like law, teaching, engineering,
computing, art, mass communication, medicine and architecture," the
Governor added, disclosing, "this unique online digital job workshop on
'Microwork' and 'Elancing" is germane and timely given the strategic
thrust of our S.M.A.R.T agenda which revolves around job and wealth
creation because, my administration is ready to collaborate with
agencies, development institutions, corporate bodies and
non-governmental organizations when it comes to creating employment for
our teeming youth population as a pathway to curbing the problem of
youth restiveness in our communities and achieving our goal of
prosperity for all Deltans."
He lauded the interest of youths in
the state to be positively engaged, observing that within the few days
of opening for applicants for the training programme, more than 15, 000
applications were received while a rigorous process was adopted to
select 2, 000 persons.
The Governor challenged the participants
to apply themselves diligently to what they were going to be taught
during the workshop.
