WIFE of Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa, has implored teachers
in the state to always uphold the ethics of the teaching profession by
being passionately committed to their duties.
Dame Okowa, who gave the advice yesterday during a send-off party organized in her honour by the Post Primary Education Board PPEB), Asaba Zone, noted that teaching was a noble profession that has contributed significantly to societal growth and development.
The governor’s wife, who was the immediate past Permanent Secretary, Asaba Zonal office, of the PPEB before she became the First Lady of the state following the inauguration of her husband as governor, said that she was very proud of the teaching profession and delighted to be a classroom teacher by training.
"As a classroom teacher, I was very contented with my teaching career," she said, adding that the joy of a teacher knows no bound when he or she sees that those who passed through him or her either as pupils or students are progressively doing well in life."
While saying that teachers are rich before God because of their immense contributions to societal growth and development, Dame Okowa disclosed that life is not all about what one has but about how one has been able to positively impact on the lives of others in the society.
She further urged teachers not to allow themselves to be caught in the web of what is happening in other professions, even as she called on teachers and principals not to bye-pass the Permanent Secretary, in their respective zonal offices, adding that the zonal offices of the board were created to receive complaints/reports and channel same to the PPEB headquarters for necessary action.
Meanwhile, Dame Okowa has expressed appreciation to staff and management of the Asaba zonal office for organizing the send-off in her honour, just as she assured them of her support to promote educational growth and development in the state.
In his remark, the state Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Patrick Origho, commended members of staff in Asaba Zonal office of PPEB for packaging the ceremony to honour Dame Okowa, pointing out their disposition to team spirit is worthy of emulation, even as he enjoined Deltans to support the O5 initiative of the governor’s wife.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Asaba zonal office of the board, Mrs. Loretta C. Ugbomah, had said that the ceremony was organized to honour Dame Okowa who, , was a Permanent Secretary in the zone before her husband became the governor of the state, adding that the ceremony was to wish her well in her new position as the First Lady of the state.
